NGC 6888 Crescent Nebula

The Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) is located about 5,000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus, the Crescent Nebula is a glowing bubble of gas sculpted by the fierce winds of the Wolf-Rayet star WR 136.
Long ago, this massive star shed its outer layers as a red giant — and now its fast stellar wind slams into that older material, creating a delicate, expanding shell that shines in vivid colors of hydrogen and oxygen.

Discovered by William Herschel in 1792, it’s a small but striking nebula — faint to the eye, yet spectacular in long-exposure images.

My story:

This deep-space object has always stood out to me — a striking and mysterious presence in the constellation Cygnus, one of my favourites.

There’s something almost creature-like about the Crescent Nebula, as if a cosmic organism were glowing quietly in the darkness. I’m fascinated by its luminous, textured structure that looks almost sculpted, like something alive.

Surprisingly, capturing it turned out to be easier than I expected.

Sometimes the universe rewards you with an image that feels almost effortless — and this was one of those nights.
